Grooming Your Puggle

Grooming Your Puggle

We all need some sort of periodic grooming to maintain ourselves neat, tidy, clean and presentable. Also a well groomed man looks more confident and stands out from the crowd. Grooming just gives you more confidences and puggles feel the same! Care and consideration should be shown towards your puggle. Given below are some tips on how to properly groom your favorite pet puggle.

Puggles like to look good and they feel better and have a better outlook if they are well groomed with regular trips to the pet groomer! Grooming maintains the best of health. It is important to regularly comb the hair on the legs and on the parts to remove dead hair and tangles. One should also trim the hair around the pads of the feet, and check in between the pads for hairballs, as these tend to become quite painful. For removing the hairball, use a blunt ear/nose scissors, while removing take caution as the sharp edges may cause an injury to your pet. During the winter, check for ice balls between the footpads.

Ear Care: It is very important for an owner that he/she doesn’t let the hair grow too thick inside the earflap and on the cheeks of his/her puggle as the thick growth of hair inside the earflap can force the ear to stand straight up which is not a desirable feature. Also make it a point to keep the hair trimmed on the inner ear flaps as well. During the teething period of a puggle, the ear set may, at some point, look crooked; the ears may need to be glued. One should not attempt this himself; it’s better to enlist the help of a breeder as they are certainly more knowledgeable than you and they should be able to assist you with this much better. Keep the outer ear area clean (underside of earflap), using cotton balls moistened with an ear cleaning solution. Flop-eared dogs are more prone to ear infections if the hair is not kept trimmed and the ear area clean.

Coat & Groom Tips
"Hand stripping" as opposed to clipper and scissor styling is a specialized skill. So do not assume all professional groomers to be skilled hand strippers. It is always advisable that any pet owner desiring the hand strip technique should inquire about the groomer's skill level and experience with hand stripping the puggle. Some groomers choose not to hand strip because repeated application can be wearing on their hands and wrists, and some lack training in the procedure. A few may say, "I don't care to put dogs through the longer grooming of having to strip by hand." As dog owners, one should expect to pay significantly more for hand stripping compared to alternative clipping and scissoring styling as hand stripping is a specialized skill. A skilled puggle groomer can create a beautiful styling without any hand stripping but it would not be fitting for a show puggle,
if you are interested in shows then its recommended that you find an experienced hand stripper.

Puggle owners are strongly recommended to use the services of a professional groomer for exceptional results whether they desire show grooming or non-show grooming. The "smart" look of a well-groomed puggle requires grooming and styling training.
